371. Prohibition to bury or burn in unregistered ground – (1) No corpse shall be buried or burnt other than in a place which is borne on the register of the municipality as an open burial or burning ground, or has been provided by the municipality for the purpose, but the Municipal Commissioner or the Executive Officer may grant special permission for a corpse to be buried or burnt elsewhere. (2) Whoever within the municipal area knowingly buries or burns or causes, procures or suffers to be buried or burnt any corpse in or on any ground not registered as burial or burning ground or which has not been provided by the municipality for the purpose, shall be liable to fine not exceeding five thousand rupees.
