Section 263. Report by medical practitioners.

263. Report by medical practitioners.— Every medical practitioner in attendance during the last illness of any person dying within the municipal area but outside a hospital, maternity home or nursing home shall, within twenty-four hours of his becoming cognisant of the death of such person, send a written intimation to the Registrar stating, to the best of his judgment, the cause of the death; and the cause of the death as stated in the intimation shall be entered in the death register, together with the name of the medical practitioner. The intimation shall be given in such form as may be prescribed by by-laws made in this behalf.
