135. Duties of 3[Zilla Parishads and Panchayat Samitis].— Subject to the provisions of this Act and the rules made thereunder it shall be the duty of the 4[Zilla Parishad and the Panchayat Samiti] to,— (a) encourage the establishment and foster the development of panchayats in the 5[area for which they are established] ; (b) supervise and control the administration of panchayat in the 6[area for which they are established] ; (c) perform such other functions as are imposed by this Act, and as the State Government may from time to time prescribe.
