Frequently asked questions

Questions we are asked often. Each answer is what the rest of the site already says, and the page that says more is linked.

What is Kanoon Kaka?

A legal information platform for India. You describe your situation in plain words, and the answer is written in plain words too, citing the sections it relies on. It is for ordinary citizens, law students and junior advocates: you do not need to know the name of an Act, or a section number, or any legal words at all.

Is this legal advice?

No. It is legal information, and it is not a substitute for an advocate. Using this site creates no lawyer-client relationship, we are not a law firm, and we do not represent you. The Disclaimer page is the whole of it.

Where do the answers come from?

From the text of bare Acts held in our own database, ingested from India Code (indiacode.gov.in), the Government of India’s official repository of Central and State legislation. The AI never states what a law says from its own memory, and every Act and section an answer cites is checked against our database before you see it.

Which laws are loaded?

India’s Central Acts and the State Acts published on India Code. Not every State’s Acts are loaded yet; more are being added. Judgments and case law are not loaded, and neither are rules, notifications, circulars or State amendments that India Code does not publish as part of an Act’s text. About us says more.

What if you hold no law that covers my situation?

The answer says so, and that is a correct answer rather than a fault: we would rather refuse than cite the wrong law. A question refused that way is given back to you and does not count against your free use.

Can an answer be wrong?

Yes. An Act may have been amended or repealed since we read it, a real matter turns on its own facts and on procedure, and an answer can be incomplete. India Code is the authoritative text, so verify the section there, and consult an advocate enrolled with your State Bar Council before you act.

What does it cost?

There is a fixed number of free questions, and asking them costs nothing. They are yours for as long as the account is — and they do not renew each month; signing in with your email address gives you more of them than asking as a guest does. For asking more often there are paid plans, by the month or by the year, and nothing about the law is behind them: the same sections, the same statute text, the same citations and the same honest refusal when we hold nothing. Pricing says what each plan costs and what it gives you.

Do you store my card details?

No. A payment is taken by Razorpay in their own window. No card, UPI or bank details are collected by this site or stored in our database.

What happens to what I type?

A conversation is kept for seven days and is then deleted: the questions, the answers, and the approximate location stored with them. You can delete one consultation, or all of them, yourself from the sidebar at any time. The Privacy policy page is the whole inventory of what is held and who else processes it.

Do I need an account?

You can ask without signing in. Signing in with your email address is how your own consultations come back to you, and that address is the whole of what an account holds: no name, no phone number, no password.

Can I speak my question instead of typing it?

Yes, and the speech recognition runs inside your own browser. We receive only the words you choose to send, and nothing is recorded or uploaded.

How do I reach you?

By email: support@kanoonkaka.in. The Contact us page says what to write about, and what we cannot do.

This is general legal information drawn from the text of bare Acts published on India Code. It is not legal advice, outcomes depend on the specific facts, and the Acts Kanoon Kaka has loaded are not the whole of Indian law. Consult a qualified advocate enrolled with your State Bar Council before initiating any action.
